WE

Carmel High School is a WE School and Carmel Unified is a WE Educational Partner. Our club has been featured on their website with our Valentines project, WE Are Love, and an article in Track Your Impact about Caroline Mierzwa. In 2018 Coral Barrett was on the WE Day stage talking about her “WHY“, human trafficking. Students from our school, including club member Julia Kurz, performed “Letter to My Future Daughter” on the WE Day California stage.

Every fall we submit our club’s plan for local and global actions and follow up at the end of the school year with what we have completed. The highlight to the year is attending WE Day in Los Angeles. Since LA is about 6 hours away we make the trip more that just celebrating at WE Day, we are also able to visit the offices of organizations we work with and get a chance to volunteer while we are there.

Our trip in 2018 was unusual! Last spring our school dance show featured an amazing spoken word piece. Ms. Cambra showed the performance to Kasha Butler, our contact at WE Schools, and our performing arts students were invited to perform on stage at WE Day California in front of 16,000 people. The club and performers traveled to LA together, made 100 lunches for PATH, 400 swag bags at Thirst Project, sorted and inventoried donations at Baby2Baby, and took a tour of The Dream Center. The trip ended at WE Day where the performers took the stage to share Letter to My Future Daughter, written by Grace Heidtke, choreographed by Natalie Lobo, with Kenshi Husted on violin. Club president Coral Barrett also took the stage to share her passion to fight human trafficking. John Stamos was the host, Morgan Freeman was there for the first time, and amazing time was had by all. A huge thank you to our foundation sponsors: Yellow Brick Road, Carmel High School Foundation, and Carmel Rotary.

WE Day Trip 2018

In 2017 we visited the Thirst Project offices and got to meet with the founder, Seth Maxwell, and also visited the This Bar Saves Lives offices (and got some cool swag!). We made 100 lunches for homeless, dropped them off at PATH, and heard about what they do to help the homeless in California. In the evening we volunteered at Baby2Baby and helped sort donated items and created pop up displays so their partners could shop for needed items.

WE Day Trip 2017

2017 was the first year for our service trip to Los Angeles! We visit two organizations we work with, This Bar Saves Lives and Thirst Project. We also attended the amazing Evening of Inspiration! The trip was inspiring and motivating, sparking service ideas in everyone!
